CYBERSAPIEN / HYPERSAPIEN: CHALLENGE
Notes:
The hallway was dim with high, green metallic walls. The floor was wet from the leaking
pipes far above and the air was musty. I slowly walked past open panels with ancient wires
pouring out and the sloshing of each step echoed quietly behind me. I could barely make
out a very deep humming sound coming from what seemed like all around me. An occasional
shriek of metal on metal followed by a subtle clambering from inside the open panels had
my adrenaline constantly rushing. with skin tingling I approached a huge portal along the
left wall. As I grew closer my eyes felt strangely as if they were being gently pulled at
an angle toward the center of my forhead and my vision blurred slightly. Then as I reached
out my arm to knock, all the hair on my body stood straight out. The door was so thick and
composed of a strange alloy whereby very little sound occurred. The door, however melted
quickly into the wall on the left and I slowly entered a huge dark chamber. What I saw
before me when my eyes adjusted to the distant lighting nearly sent me to the floor. Small
bolts of golden electricity ran in patterns across the ribbed ceiling and around this huge
arachnid looking creature who stared at me with the intensity of a burning metal rod
stabbing into my eyes. Thousands of metallic spiderlike arms tens of feet long moved in
waves and tapped incessently on the shiny black walls and floor. "You wish to perform
a monitoring?" its voice boomed out from almost thirty feet above.
"Yes", I quietly returned, "Im pure human sentry, Xander."
"Proceed", the beast granted. This is my purpose, to monitor the genetic and
cybernetic changes of creatures such as this one. Beings only recently human, now a race
of nearly one million uniquely variated humanoids who can only be classified as
Cybersapien.
It all began about nine years ago, roughly 2045. A small group of radical young
scientists, philosophers, body mutilaters and of course surfers decided to take things a
little too far. If they had any idea of the path they would send the human race down, I
wonder if they would have begun at all. Or was it inevitable? Today life is intense, hyper
and surreal. Let me explain. Every human life form has the opportunity to take a slightly
or sometimes tremendously different form. Remember, back in the nineteen nineties, when
being unique was especially important, when being different was the norm? Everyone was
designing who they were - or so they thought. Today, with new materials, genetic
engineering, nano-robotics and optical and subatomic microcomputers at everyone's
fingertips, you can see how things could evolve. And evolve is what many of us did. So
Rapidly. So competitively. Many people like myself have decided to remain human and some
of us have been charged by what littl e organized society remains to monitor and document
how far things go. There is little we can do sometimes to enforce any limitations. In
fact, with the technology flowing about, there is often little we can do to stop it from
altering us. In nanoseconds a randomly mutating syntetic virus can transform you into a
creature that can only exist in the vacuum of deep space. Thus the term Pure has been
designated for humans who have managed through almost impossible odds to remain as our DNA
intended.
He reprogrammed his DNA. Now his body used molecules that never existed in this universe
before. He called himself "Yune" for unity or possibly unik as he was no longer
of a particular sex. Yune was stripped of his humanity and fully a combination of intense
thought and ripping animal. With his new body he could move at speeds over two hundred
miles per hour. His claws could rip through steel. At the same time his mind was reeling.
Gravity was a tool of his as he manufactured living computers out of thin air which would
attach and be absorbed by his body as he hurled through the woods with a glowing spark
trail following behind. He was not alone in this, but he was unique. He was the next step
in human evolution where competition was extreme and life itself so hyper that many humans
had been left behind their minds warped beyond repair from trying to keep up. For those
that suceeded life was totally new - every nanosecond. Evolution took on a whole new
meaning as a single lifeform would be transformed millions of times over a normal human
lifetime. But time was no longer a consideration. Disease was a joke. Aging was a thing
long forgotten. This is the time of the wildest creation to ever set foot in this
universe. This is the time of the "CyberSapien".
CS Type 2) In an underground chamber on what was once Earth a creature sits atop a throne
of metals. On top of his head is a monstrous machine with plates, tubes and wires. The
surface of the machine changes and grows. A firey spray of deep thought explodes
continuously from the incased brain of the once human oddity. The miles of earth manage to
contain the dangerous flumes of thought as the creature probes the universe from his
living mechanical chamber.
CS Type 3) The monster stands twelve feet tall. Four smaller replicas clamber around him
keeping him clean and otherwise maintained. In battle his helpers are often killed. Upon
the death of one he quickly consumes the remains which immediately triggers the creation
of a new helper spawned from his body. They are one life form composed of five. He is too
large and has a very complex set external dermal and armored plates to maintain himself
alone. The helpers are necessary to his ultimate survival. The battles are often and
relentless as the quicker forms of Cybersapien constantly invade his zone. As I said
competition is fierce. It is amazing he survives as he is a static Cybersapien. Slow
compared to most others and no longer evolving. Even with his great size and strength and
his helpers he will soon fall in to the ever expanding list of extinct human forms.
